Welcome to the Sudbury Chapter of Advocis, the Financial Advisors Association of Canada.
We hope to have another good year and build on the efforts of the previous executive - many of whom cannot return this year and whose shoes will not be easy to fill.
Our chapter has had many successes in the last year. We were recognized by Advocis Canada and received the Inukshuk award for our chapters efforts in providing quality educational events with the North Bay, Timmins, and Sault Ste Marie chapters.
We will continue our new tradition of joint events with the northern chapters with the Northern Education Summit being held semi annually in April & September. We were also runners up for the The deHaerne trophy, which symbolizes integrity and knowledge. It is awarded annually to the local chapter that has made the most outstanding contribution to the furtherance of CLU studies - and we plan on continuing to promote certifications as a path to professionalism. We will continue to offer study groups and support for our members who are embarking on this rewarding career path.
In this era of rapid change, enhanced transparency, and increased regulatory burden, its more important then ever to belong to an association that represents and supports our members, regardless of the employer, dealers, MGA's, or insurers they use in your day to day business. Our Advocacy team has worked extremely hard to educate and inform our elected officials of the necessity of our industry, and our place in providing a strong financial environment for all Ontarians by offering quality & professional advice. As we have several years in a row, our chapter executives traveled to Queens park and had face to face with MPP's France Gélinas, Glenn Thibeault, & Michael Mantha. We've also attended local events with the premier and are regularly invited to meetings hosted by the Minister of Finance & his Staff. We'll continue to meet with regulators, elected officials, and political candidates from all parties. As a member, you’ll also receive regular newsletters inviting you to share in Advocis' position on regulatory reforms and to add your voice to that of the association. By banding together, your voice will be heard so we can truly make a difference in the regulation of our profession.
However, we need your help and your clients help in spreading a message of consumer choice to ensure that an advice gap is not created by the government pricing out services out of reach of the Ontario Public by eliminating embedded compensation.
We will be reaching out to members several times this to gauge interest in additional initiatives for both new & seasoned advisors. We are looking at several programs which we will communicate by way of our upcoming linked in group, Networking & Study groups for members who are newer to the business or taking courses, training days with common topics for Administrative Assistants, group webcasts for next years Canada Sales Congress, cooperation with other local associations events, and more.
Don't hesitate to reach out to me personally for more information, questions about the Association Errors and Omissions Insurance package available to all Advocis members, or to volunteer at our events or on our board."
